Abstract

This study sought to determine the difference of volunteerism between males and females to an attractive and unattractive recipient. The participants of the study were selected senior high school students of Philippine Christian University, ranging from 15-17 years old regardless of the socio-economic status. The participants were composed of 60 males and 60 females. Physical attractiveness was manipulated by the attractive and unattractive picture of the same person. Altruistic helping was manifested by volunteerism through a self made checklist. Based on the gathered data, the study concluded that females are more altruistic than males. Volunteerism is not affected whether the recipient is attractive or unattractive.
