Abstract

Abstract This research is centered on the effect of Animal-Assisted Activities (AAA) as an intervention in behavior modification of selected children with Asperger’s Syndrome, specifically in their social-communicative interaction skills to develop verbal and non-verbal communication, physical contact, and social play. The researchers observed the terminal behavior in need of modification and used Animal-Assisted Activities as a positive reinforcement of the initial and intermediate behavior. This experimental research made an effort to enhance the social – communicative interactions of the selected children with Asperger’s Syndrome which have significant difficulties in terms of communication and social interaction. In the pursuit of enhancing the social-communicative interactions of the selected children with Asperger’s Syndrome, the researchers were able to conclude that Animal-Assisted Activities significantly enhanced the social-communicative interactions of the research participants. The researchers recommend the inclusion of Animal-Assisted Activities in the curriculum of children with Asperger’s Syndrome.
