Abstract
This study tackled and explored the perception of adopted adolescent towards parental favoritism and their common characteristics. The respondents were five (5) adopted adolescents ages 17-19 coming from Dasmarinas, Cavite at this stage of the adopted, they seem to have a confusion of their real identity. They were also chosen based on their family structure; the adopted adolescent and the biological children of their adopted parents should live together. METHODOLOGY: This study is a descriptive type of research using case study method. The researchers located the potential participants through snow ball technique, participants were chosen based on their family structure: parents who adopted a child regardless of having their biological child. The methods used in this study to gather data are in depth interview and HTP Projective Test. The respondents were five (5) adopated adolescents ages 17-19 coming from Dasmarinas, Cavite at his stage of the adopted, they seem to have a confusion of their real identity. They were also chosen based on their family structure; the adopted adolescent and biological parents are living together. The researchers found out the common characteristics of adopted adolescent which are anxious, dependent, hostile, and has withdrawal tendencies. Researchers also found out that adopted persons are the subject of favoritism of their adoptive parents because the adoptive parents did not want the adopted child feel the abandonment or the out of place tendencies in their family. It foresees that biological persons understand more if the parents favor the adopted child. CONCLUSION: From the data gathering, researcher concluded that: 1. Most of adopted parents practice the non-legal way of adoption by adopting their relative child, without too may formalities required, and it is proven to be more economical and practical. 2. Adopted person are capable of accepting the truth of adoption, because of the love and attention given to him by his adoptive parents, the parental love that the child supposedly should have had from his/her real parents was given his/her adopted parent. 3. Parents tend to love their adopted child more because the parents do not like the adopted child to feel the rejection they when they were once abandoned by their biological parents. 4. Parents may favor their adopted children because of their different characteristics from their biological children; more of the adopted child are most likely a good one than their biological offspring. 5. Most of the adopted adolescents want to stay in their adoptive families rather than their biological families after long times of not being with them. RECOMMENDATION: The researchers decided to recommend to the following for the future researchers who will conduct the same study: 1. The researchers recommend to use counseling techniques in order to manifest the conflicts arsing from the family of adopted and biological persons. 2. The researchers recommend to use psychotherapy whenever the adopted person had a conflict with his adoptive family. It is also good to know if the adopted person know about the adoption and show some reactions and feelings towards it. 3. The adopted parents should always put in their minds that the well being of the child is their main concern whether he is their natural or foster child. The success of the child enormously depends on the success of the parents in bringing the child up. 4. The researchers recommend to study about the ordinal position in the adopted family and how it could affect the adopted person's personality. 5. The researcher recommend to study about self-concept and self-esteem of adopted person to see if it has affects on them, especially in their personality and if it affects how they cope for being adopted. 6. The researchers recommend to use a bigger number of respondents to get better results for the study.
