Abstract

ABSTRACT Name of Institution: De La Salle University – Dasmariñas Address: Dasmariñas, Cavite 4115 Title: Fate For Sale: Fortune Telling and Its Impact on the Decision Making Processes of Selected Respondents along Quiapo Area Proponents: Poblete, Diana Grace A., Martinez, Christine D., Respicio, Loise P. Funding Source: Parents Cost: Php 10, 000 Date Started: June 2007 Date Completed: March 2008 Objectives of the Study A. General: This study aimed to determine the impact of fortune telling on the decision making processes of selected respondents along Quiapo area B. Specific: To be able to know if the respondents have gone too dependent to fortune telling when it comes to decision making Scope and Delimitation The study focused on the impact of fortune telling on the decision making processes of Filipino fortune seekers. The respondents of the study were randomly selected along Quiapo area. Only those who give consent to participate in the study were included regardless of age, sex, civil status and religion. Methodology The study made use of Descriptive Method to introduce the proposition, which includes all studies and topics that can be related to support presented facts concerning the nature and status of the concepts. Major Findings On the basis of the analysis of data gathered in the study, the following findings were summarized: Conclusions and Recommendations Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: Conclusion 1. It can be concluded that fortune telling got a high assessment as a feedback given by their patronizers in terms of its impact on the decision making process. 2. It can be concluded that fortune telling has some positive effects on some fortune seekers, in that the good things heard can sometimes serve as a therapy or consolation in difficult times. 3. That there is the tendency to be dependent on fortunetellers thereby further weakening one’s capacity to make decisions. Recommendations 1. It is recommended that family members, neighbors and peers be supportive to the respondents in making decision in life. 2. That fortune seekers be more educated as to the possibility of becoming too dependent on fortunetellers thereby causing them to be all the more unable to make decisions on their own. 3. It is recommended that the future researchers should conduct an in – depth conversation with the fortune seekers to accumulate more detailed and accurate information concerning fortune telling. 4. It is recommended that future researchers search for more information particularly in theory that will support this study. 5. That Guidance Counselors and Counseling Psychologists be of help to the respondents by giving them professional counseling to give them what is needed to come up with a sound decision. 4. Another study be done investigating on how fortune tellers got their training on this.
