Abstract
This research sought to determine the level of satisfaction in life and coping strategies that widows and widowers employ , as well as the similarities and differences of coping and life satisfaction between both genders. A total of 102 respondents, 70 females and 32 males who met the set criteria were chosen to be part of the study: (1) age within 20 to 50 yea rs old, (2) must be married to their deceased husband, (3) should have children, and (4) residents of Dasmariñas City. Data were collected thr ough the use of standardized instruments, such as the Life Satisfaction Questionnaire (Lisat - 11) which was used to measure the life satisfaction of respondents, and the Brief COPE Inventory that identified the respondents‘ ways of coping. The Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement served as the basis of the present study. It involves two phases with which individuals go through, one is the Loss - orientation and the other, Restoration - orientation coping. Results revealed that widows and widowers appear to have differences in coping strategies employed, but not in life satisfaction as both genders showed an equally high level of satisfaction in life even after the loss of their spouse.
