Abstract

Abstract Abstract Abstract Abstract Bullying is a major problem which is most common in the school environment. Lesbian and gay students are more likely to be victims of bullying. The purpose of this study is to identify the bullying experienced by the Filipino lesbian and gay Adolescents. The Focus group discussion (FGD) was used as a method of collecting data and the interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was utilized as the research design. The result of the study identified four forms of bullying: Rational, Verbal, Physical and Intimidation, each of which led to various effects which includes: Isolation, Low self-esteem. The result shows that following the effects bullying had on the Lesbian and Gay victims, it accompanies several consequences which includes psychological and emotional maladjustment such as lack of motivation in school and daily activity, emotional imbalance such as suicidal thoughts and lack of trust in people, and juvenile delinquency such as engaging in physical altercation. Furthermore, not all victims of bullying are able to develop a coping strategy for their experience which leaves them vulnerable to their perpetrators. In conclusion, the persistent victimization of bullying is associated with an increased risk of suicidal ideation, lack of motivation which is linked to the inability to develop a coping strategy for their experience.
