Abstract

The study determined the effects of different levels of sports and health drinks to the body weight and blood-glucose level of Guinea pigs. Adjunct to the study is their comparison with water. Selected sports and health drinks were administered to the Guinea pigs via Gavage method for 20 days. Body weight measurements and blood-glucose testing were done on the 1st day, before the administration of sports and health drinks, and 21st day, after the administration of sports and health drinks. After the treatment, 75% of the treatment groups lost weight but no significant differences had occurred. All treatment groups had an increase in blood glucose level but only Guinea pigs exposed to high levels of Brand A had a significant difference. No distinction or difference was established when findings were compared with the control group. In conclusion, neither the volume nor the brand of sports and health drinks could cause any difference to the body weight and blood-glucose level of the Guinea pigs.
