Abstract

The high risk of food poisoning due to the ingestion of formalin treated vegetable by humans is the main point of study of the authors. By using albino rats to examine the level of intoxication, formalin tolerance can be known as well. There could be behavioral changes but the study aimed to focus on the changes in weight. Three groups of rats consisting of five rats each were treated with varying concentrations ranging from 1ppm to 4ppm. The rats were treated with 1 mL of formalin thrice a day for 4 wks. These rats were examined before, during and after being treated with formalin. Significant changes on their weight were recorded. Based on the findings, ingestion of formalin had significant effect to the weight of the albino rats. The rats treated with 2ppm of formalin were the heaviest among the other groups of rats.
