Abstract

The study determines which of the following substitutes rice hull; saw dust, cow manure, and chicken manure would significantly yield better vegetative growth of asparagus as a substitute for organic fertilizers. It utilized four treatments using different soil media with additional organic fertilizers in response to the growth of Asparagus in terms of height, dry weight and percentage survival. The organic fertilizers used were rice hull, sawdust, cow manure and chicken manure. Data from the study showed that Asparagus thrives best in 25% rice hull + 75% garden soil. Rice hull decomposes faster than other organic fertilizers because the carbon nitrogen ratio of rice hull is 40:1 making it dissolve organic fertilizers faster than the organic fertilizers. As rice hull decomposes it provides food for the beneficial soil microorganisms and increase water-holding capacity of soil for better growth of asparagus.
