Abstract

The study focused on the identification, classification, distribution and relative abundance of gastropod univalves found at Lipata Beach, Alen, Samar. Collection began during low tides. The Lipata beach was divided into 30 meters away from the first transect line with the same 10 meter horizontal distance between each other. Only one pass collection was done on each sector and a quadrat, 1 meter by 1 meter in dimension, was used to provide restricting perimeter during collection that lasted for four consecutive days. Collected items were brought to the National Museum for classification right after cleansing of shells with water, brush, and chicken wire. A total of 2004 univalves were collected, representing 33 species belonging to 13 families. There are 55 families under Class Gastropoda but only 13 of these have representatives in the area of study and these were: Trochidae, Turbinidae, Nertidae, Cerithiidae, Strombidae, Cypraeidae, Muricidae, Collumbellidae, Buccinidae, Vasidae, Mitridae, Cornidae, and Bullidae.
