Abstract

Taxonomic study of ferns was conducted in three selected sites in Balite Falls, Amadeo, Cavite which aimed to collect, identify, classify, and describe the ferns found in different locations. The collection was done by means of non- random sampling method in three selected sites. The collection was done on month of August. This also includes measurement of the physic-chemical parameters such as temperature, altitude, location (latitude and longitude) and chemical analysis of the soil (pH and organic matter content soil). Collected specimens were compared to the specimen at the Philippine National Museum (PNM) to confirm the initial identification. This descriptive study focused on the identification and classification of ferns and their allies. There are 15 species of ferns found in 3 sites belonging to 10 genera and 5 families. Among the three study sites, Site 1 has the highest number of fern species. The ferns that are present in the three sites are Tectaria dissecta, Tectaria sp., and Dennstaeditia phillipinensis. The most represented family is family having Dryopteridaceae 6 species and 4 genera.
