General Objective The main objective of the study was to determine the emotional functions of children in conflict with the law at the National Training School for Boys in Tanay, Rizal and its implication to the crime they committed. B. Specific Objectives 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, socio - economic status of the family, offense committed, home environment, and educational attainment? 5 2. What are the emotional functions of the respondents as measured by the Emotions Profile Index test results? 3. What is the implication of the emotional functions of the respondents to the crime they committed? Scope and Delimitation of the Study The study is mainly concerned on the emotional functions of the children in conflict with the law at the National Training School for Boys. It is a descriptive research using case study method in determining the emotional functions of six selected children in conflict with the law at the National Training School for Boys in Tanay, Rizal and its implication to the crime they committed. The researcher’s study is only limited to the emotional functions of six children in conflict with the law, with ages ranging from 15 to 18 years old from the National Training School for Boys in Tanay, Rizal. Only those who have a maximum of one year stay inside the institution were included in the study. METHODOLOGY Descriptive case study method was used to determine the emotional functions of the children in conflict with the law at the National Training School for Boys in Tanay, Rizal. The study was conducted last February 8, 2008 at the National Training School for Boys in Tanay, Rizal. Wherein the researcher personally administered the Emotions Profile Index test and the interviews. It 6 aimed to determine the emotional functions of the children in conflict with the law at the National Training School for Boys and its implication to the crime they committed. The Emotions Profile Index was the major instrument used to measure the emotional functions of the respondents. The test was administered, checked and interpreted by the researcher. The use of interview was to gather more information about their demographic profile. CONCLUSIONS 1. All the respondents belong to the early adulthood stage period; all of them have stopped schooling and belong to an unhealthy home environment. Three of them are from an average socio-economic status and the other three are from a low socio-economic status. 2. Depressed, timid and trustful are the three highest emotional functions experienced by the respondents which are equal to sadness, fear and acceptance in subjective language. 3. Emotional functions motivated the respondents to commit a crime. RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Children in conflict with the law must work to control their feelings and appreciate the help of the social workers who worked for their betterment, especially those who resides inside the institution. 7 2. The Family of Children in Conflict with the Law must give their full support and attention, for the betterment of their children who got involved in an illegal act. They should not give up; instead they should be the source of hope for their children. 3. The Institution must promote a program that can help the children in conflict with the law to control their emotions by giving coping techniques and strategies. 4. The House-parents and social workers should also continue providing support, strength, attention and hope to the children in conflict with the law by giving emotional support. 5. The Future Researchers are recommended to include other factors such as personality and social life in their future research that would involve children in conflict with the law.
