Abstract

The research study was conducted primarily to determine the relation between myopia and nerdism. The study also tried to answer the following specific questions: 1. Are those suffering from myopia the only ones exhibiting a high level of intelligence as manifested by their I.Q test scores? 2. Will the emmetropes manifest a lower level of intelligence as manifested by their I.Q test scores? 3. Will the emmetropic group perform better than the myopic group in terms of their I.Q. scores? On the basis of gathered data and information resulting from this study, the following were revealed : 1. Of the two identified groups, that is myopic group and emmetropic group, no one in particular out performed each other in terms of their I.Q. test performance. 2. Myopes, contrary to what predicted did not exhit a high level of intelligence in terms of their I.Q. test performance. 3. Emmetropes did not manifest a lower level of intelligence in the I.Q test administered to them. Based on the careful analysis of the data and information gathered it was revealed that: 1. There exists no significant difference in the I.Q test performance of both groups. Thus, it cannot be claimed that myopia alone in the chosen population and research area exhibited increased intelligence as predicted in this study. 2. As far as the identified population and research area is concerned, myopia alone does not directly lead to nerdism.
