Abstract

The survey was conducted to determine the different medicinal plants used in Soro-Soro Ilaya, Balete and Talumpok East, Batangas City. Specifically, the study aimed to identify and classify the medicinal plants used by the herbolaryos and residents as remedies for different diseases in the selected barangays in Batangas City, the plant organs or parts used, and the method of preparation of the plant organ or part used as remedies for the different identified diseases. Based on the result of the study, the following conclusions were drawn. The medicinal plants found in Soro-soro Ilaya, Balete and Talumpok East, Batangas City is comprised of thirty one (31) families, forty eight (48) genera and fifty (50) species, majority of which came from the family Lamiaceae. The plant part or organs used for medicinal uses includes the leaves, stem, flower, fruit, roots, seeds and bark and the whole plant can also be utilized. The most common plant part used for medicinal purpose is the leaves. There are different methods of preparation used for medicinal plant, this includes poultice, extraction, decoction, infusion or tea and mixed with other available sources like honey, vinegar, coco oil, cooked and candied. The most commonly used method for the different plant part is decoction. 5.2 RECOMMENDATIONS Having known the findings and conclusions of the study, the researchers have drawn the following recommendations: 1. Conduct research on the phytochemistry of the medicinal plants used as remedies for the identified ailments in the selected barangays of Batangas City. 2. To conduct biodiversity study in different barangays of Batangas City to determine other plants in the area. 3. Perform in depth research on medicinal plants of Batangas City to assess the floral resources of these areas. 7. Isolate potent chemicals using the top twenty versatile medicinal plants identified that may be considered to have potentials to synthesize new drugs.
