Abstract
This study aimed to establish the presence of helminthes in relation to the sanitary practices of school-aged children in Ramona S. Tirona Memorial School (RSTMS), San Agustin, Dasmariñas City, Cavite, wherein fecal samples were collected. The preparation of the sample slides utilized Direct Fecal Smear using Willis Solution. Out of the 87 pupils, only Ascaris lumbricoides eggs have been identified among 5.7% of school-aged children. Children aged 12 had the highest occurence of infection among the school-aged children followed by the pupils aged 10, while aged 9 and 11 showed no infection. Statistically, the occurence rate of ages 10 and 12 is insignificantly different (p<0.05). Further the school-aged children are minimally infected (5.7%), wherein student’s families’ sanitary and hygiene practices generally included washing of hands, taking a bath every day, having continuous supply of water, having a clean bathroom and wearing of slippers every time they play, especially outdoors. Hence, such practices have contributed to the minimal infection rate.
