Abstract

The Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines, Inc. conducted a hog analysis that showed high rate of diseases on their swine production is one of the major identified constraints on the industry. It was seen that Ascariasis and its effect on the quality and safety of meat intake of the consumers is included in this predicament. Many plants have been used in the treatment of the said disease throughout the world. In this study the effect of papaya (Carica papaya) and ampalaya (Momordica charantia) leaf extracts were tested using the egg hatch assay method. The effectiveness of these plant extracts were measured depending on their inhibitory effect on the ovicidal activity of A. suum ova. The hatched and unhatcehd eggs of A. suum were monitored; and based on the results of the experimentation. The leaf extract of C. papaya showed no significant difference on the effect of positive control used, Mebendazole. While ampalaya showed little or no inhibition on the ovicidal activity of A. suum ova.
