Abstract

Cloud rats are nocturnal and arboreal mammals. Locally, the species of the genus Crateromys are called yut-yut while the species of genus Phloeomys are called bu-ut. With the researchers’ interview with the local hunters in Baranggay Cabangaan, they led to the discovery of a mini-forest named Pusod, one of the places locally known to have been inhabited by the cloud rats. Conceptual frame work was established used to determine the independent variable which was the forest in Cabangaan, Silang, Cavite and the dependent variable which was the distribution of cloud rats in the forest of Cabangaan, Silang, Cavite. This study aimed to determine the present status of Phloeomys species (Cloud rat) in the said forest. The scope was limited to a miniforest named Pusod where two rivers found in each side meet at the farthest end of the forest. The study was descriptive in nature since this study dealt with the Taxonomic Survey of cloud rat population in Cabangaan, Silang, Cavite. Field work was done to achieve the objective of the study, determining the presence of cloud rat at the site. The specimen gathered was subjected into taxidermy for preservation wherein the skull underwent biometrics. The specimen was brought to the University of the Philippines for species identification.
