Abstract

ABSTRACT Name of Institution: De La Salle University- Dasmarinas Address: Bagong Bayan Dasmarinas, Cavite Title: An Exploratory Study on the Self- Perception of Clairvoyants Author: Ramon Carlo Gloria Cabrera Funding Source: Parents Cost: 8,000 Date Started: September 2006 Date Completed: March 2007 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY: A. General The main goal of the study is to explore the Self-Perception of Clairvoyants through their daily experiences and their Social and Psychological Dimensions. B. Specific: 1. What is the Demographic Profile of each respondent? a. Age b. Gender c. Marital Status d. Highest Educational Attainment e. Occupation f. Religion g. Place of Birth 3 h. Provincial/ Regional Origin 2. What are the events that the respondents experienced related to Clairvoyance? 3. What are the different perceptions of the respondents according to their: a. Social Dimension b. Psychological Dimension SCOPE AND COVERAGE: The study focused on five (5) Clairvoyants and their SelfPerception to be explored on. The Self-Perception of the five (5) different Clairvoyants was explored through their Social and Psychological Dimensions. METHODOLOGY: This study is a Case Study type of Method. The researcher used the purposive sampling technique in choosing the respondents. The research instrument for this study was the use of interviews. The five (5) different respondents were all current-members and ex-members of a paranormal group or organization. Before conducting the interview, each respondent was made to fill up a Profile Index for individuality. 4 MAJOR FINDINGS 1. Four (4) of the respondents encountered ghosts which took the form of persons, while the other respondent encountered a ghost which took the form of a shadow. Those four (4) respondents encountered a relative who passed away, a child, a white lady, and a headless man. 2. Three (3) of the respondents got used to their ability which had a good psychological effect on them because of maturity according to Memphis, and awareness according to Lecter. Meanwhile this ability had a negative effect on the two (2) other respondents. According to Mariel, she developed a feeling of isolation, while Maxine became paranoid. 3. In a social setting, three (3) of the respondents said they usually do not tell others what they encountered especially when they are having a good time although according to Ivana, she would tell some people if she encountered something. For the other two (2) respondents, they developed a negative social dimension. According to Mariel, she experienced discrimination, while for Maxine, there was a suppressed feeling of fear. CONCLUSION 1. All Clairvoyants perceive ghosts which take different forms. 2. Clairvoyants feel they have a psychological advantage among other people because they become more aware of things around 5 them. They also have more self-knowledge especially on this particular ability. 3. Clairvoyants, when encountering a ghost while they are socializing, would usually keep the feeling to themselves. They would not tell others, so they try to deny their fear just to maintain calmness in the company of other people. RECOMMENDATIONS 1. A more in-depth study on the Self-Perception of Clairvoyants. Two separate studies could be done, either on professional Clairvoyants such as Spiritistas or Questors of plain Clairvoyants who do not practice Clairvoyance. 2. Seminars of Fr. Jaime Bulatao and Jaime Licauco can be a good source for one to be educated about the Paranormal. 3. Clairvoyance is only a form of Extrasensory Perception or ESP. Future researchers can study on other forms of ESP such as precognition and telepathy to widen their knowledge of the Paranormal.
