Abstract

ABSTRACT NAME OF INSTITUTION: De La Salle University - Dasmariñas ADDRESS: Dasmariñas, Cavite TITLE: Implications of Usage of Firearms in the Aggression and Impulsivity of Security Guards AUTHORS: Alyssa Marie F. Macabulos Reena Theresa C. Marquez Leona Krisa V. Maulanin FUNDING SOURCES: Parents COST: P 8,954.80 DATE STARTED: June 2012 DATE COMPLETED: April 2013 Lately, there have been a number of issues regarding gun ownership and some security personnel were involved in some untoward incidents. In this study therefore, security guards with firearms were chosen as respondents. This study aimed to answer the following questions: a) what is the demographic profile of the respondents? b) What are the level of aggression and impulsivity of the respondents? c) What are the implications of the usage of firearms to their aggression and impulsivity? Five security guards qualified for interview after the screening process using the Aggression Scale and UPPS-P Impulsivity Scale. Two of the five respondents got high levels in aggression and the other three acquired high levels of impulsivity. Five implications of the usage of firearms from the interview were identified namely, a) security guard‟s priority: securing life and property, b) the weight of responsibility with gun use, c) fear viii and accountability, d) routines related with gun use, e) fear inducing weapon. Based on the results, it was found out that both of the aggression and impulsivity present among the security guards are positive.
