Abstract

ABSTRACT Summary, Findings, Conclusions and Recommendations This chapter presents the summary, conclusions and recommendations of this study. Summary The study aims to identify the fascination behind cosplaying of cosplayers ranging from 16 and above years of age, to acquire valid and factual responses from conventional participants. Descriptive method, specifically a case study technique, was adapted in order to have a full grasp of information needed to support the study. The researchers used interview guide questions to utilize interviews and also genuine observations from actual cosplay conventions to expose the participants’ fascination in cosplaying. Interview was used to find out the respondents reason of engaging into cosplay and the benefits and the negative effects that could also acquire from the enthrallment of cosplaying. All the respondents have the same fields of interests and fondness in animé’s, five of them enjoys drawing, namely Mari, Niño, Philip John, Ivan and Pauline. Two of them delve in fashion and modeling and they all conquer self confidence from partaking into cosplays, and these are Lourdes and Christine. Four of them earn a lot from this fascination specifically, Philip John, Ivan, Lourdes and Niño, while five of them have too many expenses from this fascination namely Christine, Mari, Pauline, Zeus and Jeff. So what makes cosplay appealing? A significant aspect is the ability to choose your own body. This proves that there are both negative and positive properties of the fascination in cosplaying. Findings The participants of the study are all cosplayers and cosplay fanatics. Their ages range from 16 years old and above. All of them have joined cosplay conventions and are certified cosplayers. 1. Majority of the research participants are college student and are Filipino Cosplayers. They all play costumes which they imitate from anime characters and cartoons. 2. Cosplay fascination has benefits and negative effects. 3. Cosplayers copycat the characters they think suits to their personality or siezes’ the personality they think they are. 4. Most of the Cosplayers do their costumes or alter the costumes they want to wear in a cosplay convention. 5. Cosplaying is an expensive obsession. At the same time could be of help financially as a business. 6. Cosplaying could be a way of hiding or masking inferiority and disadvantages that a person wouldn’t want anyone to see, it could also help boost self confidence, fulfillment, self affirmation and happiness at the same time. Conclusions 1. Majority of the cosplayers are college students and are enthusiasts of animé, and started as cos-trippers where they protrude gradually as official cosplayers who imitate and portray anime characters. 2. Fascination in cosplaying has two properties: the escape zone and the safe zone. Some of the respondents uses cosplaying as their tool to be appreciated by other people and to have enough self confidence to be known by others. In the actual world, we are born with bodies that we can change them. Only with significant difficulty and expense and that's not the case in cosplay, where affiliates are free to customize how they look with costumes. While others are fascinated with cosplay because they feel at ease, relaxed and pleased when in costume, just like any other people who are enthusiasts of collecting expensive things they are fond of, or someone who goes to spa houses after work, it is in the same situation. It just so happen that cosplayers wear unlike costumes and clothing that others do not understand and easily accepted specially in the Philippines where culture is conservative. 3. What makes cosplay appealing is its significant aspect of the ability to choose a desired body or image. 4. Cosplayers have difficulty of saving money because of costly costumes. They do everything to earn money for this habit; sometimes they even steal money from their parents just to afford their needs. But on the other hand, cosplaying helps other people to earn a lot from making costumes because as we all know all forms of art is expensive. 5. The researchers found out that cosplaying could be a form of escape from reality; the study shows that cosplay fascination could have had deeper relation to a person’s identity and inferiority. Unconsciously covering up self disadvantages is one of the main reasons that came up within the study of cosplay fascination. Recommendations: Based on the summary and conclusions, the researchers offer the following recommendations. Counselors and clinician. They should familiarize themselves with the fast spreading new fad of cosplaying, to help them create new solutions to negative effects of fascination. Parents. They should always guide their children, especially those who are in a stage of self exploration and in the crises of self identity. Cosplayers. These experts should understand how to value oneself wether in costume or in not. Cosplayers should balance their time and expenses from cosplaying to their family and studies. Cosplayers who make costumes should increase their creativity to craft commendable expensive costumes that could help them earn money and support their needs. Students. Those who are attracted to anime, fashion and something similar, should be aware of the danger that may cause them from too much fascination into something. Too much of something is bad enough. Future researchers. They must conduct a related study in relation with escapism and personality development which also appeared here in the research study.
