Abstract

This paper investigated the patterns of relationship which self-professed gay students have with their parents. With reference to Sigmund Freud’s theory of male homosexuality, the researchers looked for the occurrence of a dominant-mother and absent-father among homosexual male respondents’ parent-son relationship. Using a semi-structured interview the researchers found out that out of nine (9) self-professed gay students; three (3) respondents were identified to have poor father-son relationship; another three (3) respondents were identified to have absent-fathers all throughout their childhood; while three (3) respondents showed no significant problems regarding their father-son relationship. On the other hand, all of the respondents were identified to have close to very close mother-son relationship.
