GENERAL The study aimed to determine if there is significant relationship between social adjustment and academic performance among the respondents. B. SPECIFIC 1. To know the level of social adjustment of the respondents 2. To know the level of academic performance of the respondents ix 3. To determine if there is significant relationship between social adjustment and academic performance. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION The study covered the first semester of school year 2007-2008. It involved 80 freshmen students of the Psychology Department from the different sections. Their level of Social Adjustment was measured in three areas namely Peer Influence, Shyness and Assertiveness. METHODOLOGY The researchers used Convenience Sampling in order to gather respondents. The researchers came up with eighty respondents. The research method used in this study is the descriptive-correlation method specifically the self made questionnaire method to measure the frequency of the respondents. The data were presented through frequency counts and percentages. RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY The respondents of this study were eighty (80) freshmen psychology students of De La Salle University-Dasmarinas under the College of Liberal Arts, who were randomly selected. The total sample sizes were distinguished proportionally in all the sections of the first year Psychology students of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. x MAJOR FINDINGS Based on the findings of the study, it could be summarized that: 1. Forty five (45) or 56.25% of the total population are moderately socially adjusted. 2. Forty five (45) or 56.25% of the total population have an average academic performance. 3. There is no significant relationship between academic performance and social adjustment. This indicates that social adjustment does not affect the academic performance of the respondents. CONCLUSIONS The research proved that there is no significant relationship between social adjustment and academic performance of the respondents, therefore the null hypothesis of the study was accepted. The finding of the study shows that the freshmen psychology students are moderately socially adjusted and have an average academic performance. xi RECOMMENDATIONS Future Researchers. To make use of standardized test in measuring social adjustment for which it is more accurate. Hence, the findings of the study is that there is no significant relationship between social adjustment and academic performance, the study recommends to look for another factors aside from peer influence, shyness and assertiveness which can prove if there is a relationship between social adjustment and academic performance. Guidance Counselors. Even if the study did not prove any significant relationship between social adjustment and academic performance, the researchers recommend that special projects be designed for freshmen so that their moderate social adjustment and academic performance will be sustained. School Personnels. To provide more materials needed by the students like books, journals and even educational films which will help to develop their study habits and also to provide more space for academic activities and group discussions directed to academic performance.
