ABSTRACT Name of Institution: De La Salle University-Dasmariñas Address: Dasmariñas, Cavite Title: The Inner World of Children with Bisexual Fathers Authors: Lopez de Leon, Czarina B. and Mojica, Ryan Rey O. Funding Sources: Parents and Hard Work Cost: P15000 Date Started: July 2007 Date Finished: February 21, 2008 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY A. GENERAL The study aimed to determine the Inner World of children with Bisexual fathers. B. SPECIFIC 1. To know the demographic profile of the respondents. 2. To know the inner world of children with bisexual fathers in terms of sexual identity. 3. To know the inner world of children with bisexual fathers in terms of Parent-child relationship. 4. To know the inner world of children with bisexual fathers in terms of the acceptance of their fathers’ identity as bisexuals. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION The study focused on the development of children’s sexual identity, the development of the parent-child relationship, and the acceptance of the children with their fathers’ bisexuality. The respondents were fifteen to thirty years of age, single female or male residing in Laguna and must be biological children of Bisexual fathers that need not to be still living with the wife. Separated or not is not the priority, as long as the children were not adopted. The sexuality of the father must also be open. This study will be on the children aware of their fathers’ identity of being bisexual and not fathers hiding their real identity. METHODOLOGY The researchers used Purposive Sampling wherein there is a criterion that should be met. Case study research method was used in this study. Data were gathered through Gonzales’ “Pagtatanung-tanong”, wherein there were no precise questions used. Kinetic Family Drawing was also used to know more about the respondents’ relationships and understanding of their families. RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY The respondents of this study were six (6) single children ages 15-30 years old, having Bisexual fathers. The respondents must be of biological children of the Bisexual fathers, who have opened and admitted their true identity. There was no age limit for the bisexual fathers and need not be still married or living with their wives. All the respondents must be residing in Laguna. MAJOR FINDINGS Based on the data collected, the following results have been obtained: 1. All of the six (6) respondents are heterosexual and never did they experience confusion in their sexual identity. The sexual identity of the children is not affected by their father’s bisexuality. The environmental influence of bisexual father is not large. 2. In parent-child relationship, there are three respondents who have good parent-child relationship which involves closeness and involvement of father in the child’s life. Two respondents do not have good parent-child relationship, thus aloofness and hatred towards their fathers are present. Moreover, one respondent does not have a good relationship with his father. He feels aloof and a part of him hates the situation, although he feels the involvement of his father in his life. Furthermore, mostly, females find it easier to build a good parent-child relationship with their fathers, than males do. 3. All of the six respondents discovered their father’s bisexuality during childhood. All of them accepted their fathers’ bisexuality. However, one of them admitted that a part of him still have not fully accepted the situation and the bisexuality of his father. 4. Only one respondent had experienced rebellion to father’s bisexuality. Five of them reasoned that rebellion would not be of help to them and to the situation. All the six respondents are still adjusting in their social interaction due to the stigmas being thrown to them. Though they all know that stigmatization is part of dealing with the situation. CONCLUSIONS From the findings, researchers conclude that: 1. Father’s bisexuality does not have an effect on the sexual identity of the children, nor does it not give confusion and curiosity to the children to try same-sex relationships. 2. Revelation and discovery of father’s bisexuality during childhood is an easier way of acceptance. 3. Compared to males, females find it easier to accept the bisexuality of their fathers. 4. Love, attention, and being responsible enough to provide the needs of the family or the children are needed to have a good parent-child relationship. 5. Father’s bisexuality is not a big factor to achieve a good parent-child relationship. And children still do appreciate and love their fathers in spite of their bisexuality. 6. Bisexual fathers are less traditional and more open-minded. 7. Stigmatization can never be avoided by children of bisexual fathers and stigmas are part of accepting the bisexuality of the father. 8. Rebellion is not due to father’s bisexuality. Children of bisexual fathers are not prone to mental breakdown and behavior problems. 9. Children who do not have a good parent-child relationship will have the tendency to engage in serious romantic relationship and too much involvement with peers. RECOMMENDATIONS 1. For better results and analysis of children with bisexual fathers, it is recommended that future researchers should have an equal number of male and female respondents. 2. For the generalizability of the researcher, it is recommended that future researchers have more respondents to better support the study. 3. To have an in depth analysis, it is recommended that future researchers have more time of interaction with the respondents and make use of more projective tests to support the possible results.
