Abstract

ABSTRACT Name of Institution: De La Salle University-Dasmariñas Address: Dasmariñas, Cavite Title: Profiles and Coping Strategies of Parents with Rehabilitated Children Researchers: Alejar, John Angelo A. Cabangon, Marielle A. Ramos, Edeline J. Funding Source: Parents Cost: Php 4,000.00 Date Started: July 2007 Date finished: March 2008 Objective of the Study: A. General Objective This study aims to know how profiles of parents with rehabilitated children affect their coping strategies. B. Specific Objective This paper aims to know what coping strategies are used by parents with rehabilitated children. Likewise, this paper will also explore how gender, marital status and socio-economic status affect the way they cope with their problems. Scope and Coverage: Nine parents whose ages range from 37-72 were selected. They must have a child who had been admitted in a rehabilitation center. Methodology: This paper is a descriptive study. Specifically, the case study method is used to describe the effects of demographic profile on the coping strategies used by parents who have rehabilitated children, such as gender, marital status and socio-economic status. Non-probability sampling, specifically purposive sampling design is deemed effective in the selection of the respondents. Findings: Based on the results of the study, demographic profiles have effects on the coping strategies used by parents who have rehabilitated children especially gender and marital status. Meanwhile, socio-economic status has minimal effects on the coping strategies used. Conclusion: The demographic profiles have a great effect on coping strategies utilized by the parents with rehabilitated children most importantly their gender and marital status but the socio-economic status has least effects on the coping strategies used. Recommendation: The study is recommended for researchers, psychologist, parents and family members. The paper may aid them to have a better understanding on the effects of demographic profile on coping strategies.
