Abstract

Rape is defined as an unlawful sexual activity carried out forcibly without the consent o f the victim. Nowadays in a rape incident the question of who is to blam e has been in debate. P ast researches have always consulted the judgment of adults whereas in fact, more vi ctims come from the adolescents. T he purpose of this study is to determine ho w adolescents perceive and to whom they attribute responsibility according to the behavior and attractiveness of the victim in a hypothetical rape situation. A total of 200 Senior High School students completed the perceived attributed responsibility sca le (PARS) to assess the degree o n how they attribute responsibility based on their perception. The results showed that p rovocative victims are in the probability of being blamed than n on - provocative victims, F (1, 196) = 268.39, p<.01 , n 2 =.58 (moderate effec t size) . The likelihood of attributing r esponsibility was significant to attractive victims than u nattractive victims, F (1, 196) = 13.09, p<.01, n 2 =.06 (small effect size); however, no significant interaction of effects were found between Provocativeness and Attractiveness. The resul ts suggested that victims are in the possibility of being blamed (possibility or having the tendency of being raped) for the crime if Provocative behavio r or Attractive ness is seen based on the little population of two hundred Adolescent participants .
