Abstract

ABSTRACT The present study entitled “A Study on the Social Factors that cause Recidivism among the Selected Inmates of Dasmariñas City Jail”, aims to determine the demographic profile of the inmates and the most common social factors of recidivism among the participants. The locale of the study was at the Dasmariñas City Jail wherein 10 recidivist inmates participated in the study and were interviewed. The researchers conducted a qualitative method of research using a case study through in-depth interview, demographic profile and selfmade interview questionnaire were utilized for the collection of the data for the study, providing answers for what the study specifically focuses on. It is therefore concluded by the researchers that based from their demographic profile, most of the participants age ranges from 26-56 which falls under the young and middle adulthood stage, and it shows that three (3) of them were females and seven (7) were males. The present study also concludes that most of the recidivists were mostly separated from her husband or his wife and mostly attained elementary levels when it comes to their highest educational attainment, for their previousl employment there were two (2) who were unemployed and a construction worker and one (1) were a doormat maker, maid, housewife, maintenance worker, vendor and a painter. As forthe crimes committed, there were illegal possession of drugs, theft, cases of murder, direct assault, homicide, robbery and illegal possession of firearms. Furthermore, based from the results, the social factors that cause to the offenders to become recidivists are the View of Stigma, Influence of Peers, View of Society and False Accusation.
