Abstract

NAME OF INSTITUTION: De La Salle University – Dasmariñas ADDRESS: City of Dasmariñas, Cavite TITLE: Job Satisfaction among Unionized and Non- unionized Factory Workers in Laguna AUTHORS: Nina Rose J. Sardido Karen T. Urmatam FUNDING SOURCE: Parents COST: 10, 000 Php DATE STARTED: June 2013 DATE FINISHED: March 14, 2014 SCOPE AND COVERAGE: The primary objective of the researchers is to study the difference between job satisfaction of unionized workers and the job satisfaction of non-unionized workers. The study will only cover a sample of the population of the factory workers population The researcher will gather data from workers who, at least, have 5 months tenure in the company. Both company for the unionized and nonunionized workers is located in Laguna. With this, the result of the study might only be applicable to Laguna. In addition, the unionized workers will focus on union in general. This study is limited only to the information gathered by the student researchers and not in any way an expression or opinion of the faculty and of the administration. De La Salle University – Dasmariñas vi METHODOLOGY: The researchers utilized a quantitative research design specifically a causal-comparative reseach design to determine the difference of 20 unionized factory workers and 20 nonunionized factory workers in terms of their job satisfaction. RESULTS: All facets of job satisfaction are present in both unionized and nonunionized workers. These facets include ability utilization, achievement, activity, advancement, authority, company policies and practices, compensation, co-workers, creativity, independence, moral values, recognition, responsibility, security, social services, social status, supervision- human relations, supervision- technical, variety and working conditions. However, unionized is higher than nonunionized workers. Moreover, the facets included in the top 5 highest mean scores for unionized workers are social services, working condition, company policies and practices, co-workers and creativity, and ability utilization. On the other hand, the top 5 highest mean scores in the nonunionized workers include ability utilization, independence, responsibility, social services/ social status and creativity. Moreover, the facets included in the top 5 lowest mean scores for unionized workers are advancement/ independence/ moral values, compensation, variety, authority/ recognition, and supervision- human relation. Meanwhile, nonunionized workers‘ top 5 lowest mean scores include supervision- human relation, supervision- technical, company policies and practices, recognition and security. Lastly, the job satisfaction between unionized and nonunionized factory workers has a significant difference.
