Abstract
This study entitled “Network – Based Payroll System for Department of Public Works and Highways – Palawan” is a payroll system using biometrics designed and developed for the employees of the said client. Specifically, the system is a computer application/software with database that keeps and generates records of personnel’s information and daily attendance which are functionally linked as a basis of computation for the employees’ salaries in a given payroll period. The concept was proposed to the local government unit of Palawan to enable them to shift from manual recording and computation of the government employees’ salaries. This was done by the proponents to create improvement particularly in the area of reliability, effectiveness, and efficiency in the local administrations’ personnel record and information specifically in the system of recording daily attendance of around 150 government employees. This has a direct bearing on the computation and processing of personnel salaries. The system cycle involves a working personal computer where the computer application or software is installed with a standard speed that can handle multiple windows, a system administrator who handles database management and processing, the biometric machine or fingerprint scanner that sensor and records employees identification, and the employees as end users and beneficiaries of the payroll processing output.
