Abstract

The zooplankters collected through surface and bottom horizontal and vertical towing were classified and identified in the lake of Taal, Talisay Batangas. It resulted to have 2 Phyla, 4 Classes, 6 0rders, 13 Families, 17 Genera and 25 Species. Limnoncaea genuina having 7.16 importance value is the most abundant species upon all the collected zooplankton in Taal Lake, Talisay. Second to the most abundant species was Brachionus caudatus having 6.93 importance value. The third most abundant species was Mesocyclops leukarti. Its importance value was 6.83. Among the phyla, the Arthropoda has the numerous species belonging to class maxillopoda. The abundance of these species was influenced by the physical and chemical conditions, their life cycle and morphological characteristics. More positive correlations were existing in the diversity of the zooplankton and the physico-chemical factors though there are negative correlations also. Most of the physico-chemical factors were within the standard water quality. Preservation should be done to the lake since its physico-chemical factors are not yet deviating from the prestine quality of lakes.
