Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was conducted on 30 students of Montessori Child Learning Center. It was the objective of the study to determine the differences in the concept of happiness and happiness values of children. All respondents are from the high socio-economic class. Classification of the respondents are 15 males and 15 females; 15 from broken families and 15 from intact families; 15 of ages 4-7 and 15 of ages 8-11. Personal interviews were conducted as the form of data gathering. Results indicated that the children's definition of happiness is a description of a happy experience rather than objective definition of the concept. Responses indicated that their concept of happiness are actions such as : smiling, laughing, jumping up and down, and the like. On the other hand, Happiness Values of the children in dominated by the factor Environmental Upset, regardless of their background. Comparison of the type of family, sex and age showed minimal difference in the happiness values of these children.
