Abstract

ABSTRACT An Inquiry into the Perception of Middle Adolescents towards Violent Films The purpose of the study was to discuss the perception of middle adolescent towards violent films. Descriptive method was applied in this study. Structured interviews were conducted to the 12 respondents and purposive sampling was done for the sample selection. The respondents of the study are middle adolescents students from public and private high school that range from 13 to 17 years of age. The results revealed that the perceived effect of a violent film of the respondents towards the area of behavior was that the respondents manifest physical aggression and verbal aggression. It also has effects with regards to affect or emotions, the respondents of the study felt that watching violent films makes them feel happy, fear, offers stimulation, thoughts that viewing and doing such acts in reality is accepted and sometimes rewarded. Lastly, the perceived effect of a violent film of the respondents towards the area of cognition was that the respondents manifest either physical or verbal aggression, others will imitate what they have watched from the violent film and upbringing of parents can be a factor as to why their children are watching violent films. The researchers concluded that a violent film does have an effect on the of respondent’s cognition, affect and behavior.
