Abstract

Funding Source: Parents Cost: 7,000 Php Date Started: June 2012 Date Finished: March 2013 Wrist-Cutting behavior has been referred to the fastest-growing behavioral problem among adolescents. This research study identifies the significant memories that lead adolescents to engage in this kind of behaviour. A purposive sampling research design was used to select ten (10) target respondents. All participants were given a consent letter. In the results of the interview to them and their demographic profile index were kept confidential. Five significant memories prior to wrist-cutting behavior among adolescent were identified. Family problem, heart breaking experiences, attention seeking, De La Salle University – Dasmariñas fashion or trends and prolonging pain were the reason that led the adolescents to engage in wrist-cutting behavior. They started this activity during their high school years. Furthermore, out of ten respondents, five of them were nineteen years of age. The six female participants said that they did this for self-injure. Adolescents started their wrist-cutting behavior during their high school years. Most of them were females. Family problem, heart breaking experiences, attention seeking, fashion or trends and prolonging pain were the reasons that led them to this activity.
