Abstract

The study focused on gauging the moral values of gifted children in terms of four components: God-centered (maka-Diyos), patriotic (maka-bayan), people-oriented (maka-tao), and pro-nature (maka-kalikasan). The participants in this research were twenty (20) gifted children (fast-learners) ranging from seven to eleven years old enrolled for a Special Education program at Imus Pilot Elementary School. Methodology: The study used Purposive Sampling in selecting the research participants and utilized Descriptive and Quantitative Research Designs. Descriptive Design was used to obtain relevant information on gifted children and the quantitative data collected was analyzed by getting the mean for each component of moral values. Major Findings: 1. Among the twenty (20) gifted Filipino children, twelve (12) were female respondents with a mean of 2.68 and eight (8) were male respondents with a mean of 2.59. 2. Among the twenty (20) gifted Filipino children, the mean score for being God- centered or maka-Diyos is 2.57 or high moral values, 2.71 for patriotic or maka-bayan which indicate high moral values, 2.66 for people-oriented or maka-tao that indicate high moral values, and 2.64 for pro-nature or maka-kalikasan or high moral values. Overall, the research participants manifest high level of moral values with a mean of 2.64. 3. There were forty (40) preliminary items and/or behavioral indicators and four components, namely, God-centered (maka- Diyos), patriotic (maka-bayan), people- oriented (maka-tao), and pro-nature (maka- kalikasan) that can be a basis for the moral values scale. Conclusions: The following conclusions are made in light of the above-mentioned findings: 1. Based on the findings, it can be assumed that female gifted Filipino children have higher moral values compare to male gifted Filipino children. 2. Gifted children manifest being God- centered, patriotic, people-oriented, and pro- nature. Gifted children are not seclusive and inactive child as usually perceived by the public (Cavett, 1987). 3. Giftedness is not limited to the area of being exceptionally intelligent as well as talented. The definition of giftedness have ranged from a narrow view based exclusively on cognition, reasoning, and the score a person receives on a test of intelligence, to a multidimensional view of intelligence, aptitudes, abilities, and talent development (Smith, 2007). Likewise, the research shows not the usual studies regarding the emotional and intelligence quotient of gifted children rather their morality that leads to develop a newly moral values test. Recommendations: The following recommendations are given in the light of the study: Future Researchers. Determine further the interrater and test-retest reliability and concurrent validity of the preliminary test items of the Moral Values Scale for Gifted Children. Conduct a study with an equal quantity of male and female participants. Moreover, use a sentence completion type of test for the qualitative data of the moral values of gifted children. Parents. Instilling and nurturing the moral values of the gifted children is a vital part not just during childhood rather throughout their development. Teachers/Administrators. As second parents, continuously carrying out the role and integrating ways on how to develop the moral values of the gifted children are significant.
