Abstract

ABSTRACT The general objective of this study is to know the Work Values of DLSU-D Graduating Psychology Students: Its Connection to their Career Orientation. The researchers randomly selected fifty graduating psychology students to participate in the study. These participants were asked to fill-up a self-made Likert Scale questionnaire that would measure their level of giving importance to a particular work value being described. This research is descriptive-quantitative in nature. The researchers used survey method to know the work values of graduating psychology students. The survey was composed of closed ended questions using Selfmade Likert Scale—a rating scale measuring the strength of importance with a clear statement describing a particular work value. This is often administered in the form of a questionnaire used to gauge attitudes or reactions. Based from the results, educational got the highest percentage of fifty as compared with clinical and industrial with thirty and twenty respectively. It also showed that Humanism is a top work value of the students and another most important work value for the graduating psychology students is Knowledge. The study recommends that the Behavioral Sciences Department to have formal assessment of work values of incoming fourth year students to be able to know how to balance promotion and giving background of the three career orientations. The researchers also recommends to the Institution to give career pathing lecture-seminars starting with third year psychology students and not during in freshmen years because freshman students still do not have enough background and knowledge on the three career orientations, therefore, are not fully decided on which field to pursue. And if ever a study such as this would be done the researchers suggest to the future researchers to consider Filipino work values scale.
