Saflor Funding Source: Parents Cost: P 7,000.00 Date Started: August 2008 Date Completed: February 2009 Objective of the Study General: This study seeks to know the Emotional Intelligence, Self-Esteem, and Personality Profile among selected EMO listeners. Specific: 1. What is the demographic Profile of the Respondents when grouped according to their: a) age b) sex c) socio Economic status d) educational Background e) religion, and f) type of music preferred? 2. What is the personality profile of the respondents? 3. What is the level of emotional intelligence of the respondents? 4. What is the level of self-esteem of the respondents? Scope and Limitation The research was focused on the Emotional Intelligence, Self-esteem and Personality Profile among selected “EMO” listeners of various institutions/colleges/universities. The researchers considered only Emotional Quotient Inventory test, Self-esteem test and Personality Test as essential for the analysis of the study. The study also covered the Level of Emotional Quotient and Self-esteem of “EMO” listeners as well as captured their naturally occurring behaviour. The study only focused on the “EMO” listeners and its music. The researchers did not include other concerns. They believed that these were not essential for the analysis of the study Methodology This study of the emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and personality profile among selected “EMO” listeners of various institutions/colleges/universities used the descriptive survey design since the comparative study dealt with describing the level of emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and personality profile of selected “EMO” listeners. Descriptive survey is used to describe, analyze, explain, define and illustrate the emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and personality profile of the target population of selected “EMO” listeners thru tests and questionnaire. Researchers looked for different “EMO” oriented people from various institutions/colleges/universities and observed, conducted an interview, and administered emotional quotient inventory test, self-esteem test, and the Cattell 16 factor test to gain sufficient knowledge about the Emotional Quotient, level of Selfesteem and Personality Profile of “EMO” listeners. The researchers had assessed the respondent’s demographic profile and conducted an interview to fully engage in understanding the feelings that cannot be easily expressed through tests and questionnaires. The goal of this research was to describe the “EMO” listeners, develop understanding, and capture naturally occurring behaviour. Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence Test, Self-Esteem Test, and Cattell’s 16 Factor Test were administered among the selected EMO listeners. Conclusions The following conclusions were drawn from the study: 1. The level of emotional intelligence of the EMO listeners were in the moderate level as shown in the scores acquired in the Goleman’s Emotional Quotient Inventory Test. 2. The level of self-esteem of the EMO listeners is in the average level as shown in the scores acquired in the self-esteem test. It shows that EMO listeners are of the average. 3. The personality profile of the EMO listeners was most likely to be high in frequency in terms of warmth, intellect, emotional stability, aggressiveness, liveliness, dutifulness, social assertiveness, sensitivity, abstractness, anxiety, tension, open-mindedness, independence, and perfectionism, but low frequency scores in paranoia and tension. 4. That the EMO listeners are most likely to be warm, intellectual, emotionally stable, dominant, rule conscious, socially bold, vigilant, abstract, private, and perfectionists. And they are less likely to be lively, sensitive, anxious, open to change, self-reliant, and tensed. 5. In the demographic profile, EMO listeners are mostly males, ages 20-21 they are in the tertiary or college level belonging to the high income class and they are more interested in listening to EMO music than listening to other types or genre of music and the respondents are mostly Catholic. Recommendations Based on the findings and conclusions, the researchers recommend the following: 1. The future researchers may use this study as a reference when related topic is chosen as a research study in the future and that EMO music would be very useful in conducting and studying music therapy. 2. The EMO listeners should understand how they feel about the different situations that they were involved in. They should also learn to monitor their own behaviour and emotions. 3. The teachers and professors should help the students who are into EMO music in order to improve and enhance their emotional intelligence, selfesteem, and personality. 4. The parents should understand, cope, learn, and be aware of the EMO listeners’ feelings, behaviour, emotions, and personality. They should also help improve their children’s self-esteem.
