Abstract

Parent influences were examined to determine its relationship with religiosity and spirituality. Parent influences include attachment to mother (AM), attachment to father (AF), experience of childhood maltreatment (CM) from parents andparental religious involvment (PRI). The study predicted that AM, AF and PRI has positive correlation with religiosity while CM has not. In spirituality the researchers calculated that the four variables would have a positive effect. Results showed that attachment to mother and parental religious involvement significantly predict the religiosity of the participants. On the other hand, spirituality was significantly predicted by attachment to mother and attachment to father. These findings suggest that both parents play a big role in the increase of spirituality while parental religious involvement and attachment to mother are the major contributors to one's commitment to religious practices.
