Abstract

This study scrutinized the relationship between birth order and parenting styles. Eighty couples were chosen to partake in this study gathering a total of 160 participants. they answered the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire a tool wherein the individual's parenting style was assessed. The result shed that there was a significant difference found between birth order and parenting style. However, there was no significant difference found between gender and parenting style. The researchers accepted the hypothesis as there was a significant difference between birth order and parenting style. Only children were found to be more authoritarian, last borns and middle borns were found to be more authoritative while permissive parenting style was slightly used by all the birth order positions all throughout. Majority of the participants scored highly on authoritative parenting style.
